Legal herbal highs company rocks the Sydney Future Music Festival 2010 + Videos

Legal herbal highs company Partypills.com decided to join the fun across the ditch this year for the Future Music Festival. We were trying to decide between Melbourne and Sydney and ended up settling for Sydney as a meeting spot for a group of us to meet up from different parts of Australasia.  Friends that hit the Melbourne one had to dodge halestorms so I was pretty happy to be enjoying the sunshine and blueskies on our day out in Sydney.

Based on Bondi beach we made the most of the settings and kicked back on the beach, did some extreme shopping and devised new and exciting ways to enjoy the vast amounts of duty-free liquor we had acquired. The beer isn’t cheap in Oz so to take the sting out of things we stocked up on mixers and prepared to get the party started. We were all in town for the Friday night and with Future music the next day the sensible thing would have been to have a quiet one in anticipation of the big event.
Of course that would have been the sensible thing, we instead decided to have a wee house party and make a fairly substantial dent in the duty free not to mention the odd party pill or related product ;-) Head’s slightly hazy the next day we decided to hit the ground running with a few Future themed cocktails to rebalance the alcohol equilibrium.
By the time we’d had a few drinks and realised that every taxi minivan in town was over the other side of Sydney and we’d have to bus it was almost 3pm! So we hit the party a little later than I’d have like and the place was buzzing by the time we arrived. There were a few party goers that had peaked too soon but for the most part the crowd was fairly well behaved. I did see an electronic music festival first, a dancefloor brawl that would look more at home at an AC/DC concert and some guy staggered past me with what looked like a broken nose and face/shirt soaked in blood! Anyway we won’t dwell on the dodgyness, the festival was mean!

I spent most of my day in the tent and was entertained by Deutschland DJ’s Booka Shade and the party machine Sven Vath whom I hear was up to his usual antics this time round with all night house parties following the Perth gig.
John Digweed also dropped some sweet beats in the tent.
The other stages didn’t get too much of my attention. I ventured across to the main for Franz Ferdinand, despite feeling they were way out of place at this festival they did get a good ol’ crowd sing-a-long going ‘take me oooout’

I was pretty disappointed with the sound on the two main stages, you had to be front row centre to get any real volume and the bass was definitely lacking. Empire of the sun pulled a good crowd but wasn’t the blow away show I thought they’d be.
Having seen Prodigy last year @ Glasto I knew they’d rock the show, pity they didn’t bring the same speaker stacks that blasted the UK crowd.

I missed Boyz Noise and Spankrock but apart from that I was pretty happy with my effort and had an awesome day out, will be heading in earlier next time to suss the venue out and check a few of the up n comers. We all crashed pretty early Saturday night but met up with a few more fellow kiwis’ Sunday for a final night of calamity in the Cross.
We had a camera handy and managed to record a few vid’s in between dancing

If you made it this year we would love to hear your experiences!
